Fun Runners please enter your preferred start time from 6-8pm and we will assign you a time as close to that as possible. We stagger the start every 10 minutes for the fun run.

We will be matching all donations you generously make to both the Ice Age Trail Alliance or the Scuppernong Shelter in honor of our great friend and Ultra Runner Extraordinaire Tom Bunk. You may donate during the registration process.

The course will run entirely on trails (except for a couple hundred feet of road crossings) and will traverse the Ice Age National Scenic Trail (IANST) for about 65 miles. The runners deviate from the IANST when near the Nordic Trails at the start/finish and also near the Scuppernong turn around at miles 26-36.

The course consists of 2 different out and back sections. You will find the trail to be about 80% wooded terrain, with the rest meandering through gentle prairie or marsh areas. Part of the course will be a roller coaster of hills, with small rocks and roots scattered about. Other sections will be gently rolling with relatively smooth running surfaces. The pine sections give you that soft bed of pine needles that so many of us like to run on.

Though the hills are not long and/or especially steep, they can take a tremendous toll on you if you attempt to run them. We have a total altitude gain of approximately 8,000 feet and many a runner has crumbled from the triple thread (3H) of heat, humidity and hills.

The 100 mile (solo and relay) events follow the entire length of the course, while the 100 km event only follows the first 62 miles. The 38 mile night fun run follows that last 38 miles of the course. The 50 km event follows the second half of the 100km event. All events start and finish at the Nordic Trail parking lot, except for the 50 km which starts at Scuppernong aid station. A bus will be provided to get you to the start of the 50 km so your car ends up at the finish line.

The weather can vary from cool and wet to hot and humid. Some weekends we can even experience both. In 2008 we had a tough time with a very humid Saturday morning followed by tons of rain and lightning. 2009 had perfect weather. For the last 3 years it has been a mix of rain and heat. It's tough to guarantee perfect weather, but we will guarantee a well marked course and great aid stations and volunteers that will be there to help you reach you goals.
