New course record in the 100 Mile Event!

Zach Gingerich, 29 of Aurora, Illinois has set a new course record in the Kettle Moraine 100 Mile Run. Zach covered our 100 mile course in 15 hours, 17 minutes, 31 seconds.

Zach's new record eclipses the previous course record of Eric Clifton set in 1999 - 15:57:09.

First to recognize Zach's performance as a course record was Kevin Setnes (founder and original race director of the Kettle Moraine 100). As Zach finished just after darkness at 9:15 pm, to the delight of about 50 gathered in the Start / Finish Nordic Center, Kevin bluntly stated, "That's a new course record by 40 minutes."

Moments later (race director) Timo presented Zach and his father with the coveted copper Kettle... a unique award collected by the winner of the Annual Kettle 100 Mile Endurance Run.

Last Update:June 6th, 2009 10:31 pm
Events of the Kettle Moraine 100 set off promptly at 6:00 am Central Daylight Saving Time, under the direction of Tim (Timo) Yanacheck and Jason Dorgan... co race directors.

Weather during the daylight hours has been unseasonably cool with temperatures barely making 60°F. Intermittent light rain and mostly cloudy skies have kept runners cool and in general, the field is moving along well.

Nighttime temperatures are expected to remain in the low 50's with cloudy skies. The full moon (Strawberry Moon of June) will probably be wasted above the thick clouds.

Feel free to share this information with your friends and family who may want to track your progress as you make your way along your Kettle 100 adventure!

We will provide every runner with a multipurpose timing chip -and- an ankle strap. The "chip" must be attached to your shoe or ankle during your race. These chips are lightweight and when used with an ankle strap are comfortable for most runners... similar chips are used in many ultra races such as Western States 100 -and- McNaughton Park Trail Runs. Your chip will be your unique passport and identify you at our predefined checkpoints (above) as you cross over timing mats. Please be sure to:
1. Get your chip at runner check-in / packet pickup.
2. Wear your timing chip on your ankle or shoe throughout your race.
3. Do NOT trade your chip with other participants (relay teams will pass their chip among teammates).
4. Turn in your chip to a race official at the end of your race.
