Background: As a leader of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Missouri in 1838, Parley P. Pratt was falsely charged and imprisoned. After months of trying to get a fair trial, he and several companions were transferred to Boone Co. Jail in Columbia. When the chance for a fair trial didn't develop, they decided to escape on July 4th, 1839. The escape is used to celebrate freedom in this great country, with special attention to religious liberties we enjoy.
