Title:2007 Great Midwest Relay
Date:Friday June 8th, 2007
Author:Bill Thom
Report:
In its third year running participation in the Great Midwest Relay has swollen to 140 teams... a new record, up from the 63 teams listed in the 2006 official results. Teams consist of up to 12 members with a preset rotation of the 36 legs which make up the race course that stretches from Madison -to- Milwaukee -to- Chicago. Based upon predicted running pace teams are assigned to one of "7 waves" and start on Friday from 7:00 am (first wave) through 4:00 pm (last wave). The plan is to set faster teams off behind slower teams such that all teams make it to the finish in Chicago by Saturday afternoon.

This was the second year that our Greater Chicago Running Team took on the challenge. Captained by Michael Davenport we split our 12 member, "Mixed Open" team into two groups...
Group 1:
 1. Kevin O'Neil
 2. Dave Cameron
 3. Jason Doland
 4. Michelle Thom
 5. Bob Mitera
 6. Bill Thom
Group 2:
 7. Mark Polinko
 8. Dan Martin
 9. Dan Ewan
10. Jim Stein
11. Angie Paprocki
12. Michael Davenport

Having finished in 3rd place overall in the 2006 event we had lofty goals and designs on bettering our position this time around. We were able to trim a full 40 minutes from our 2006 time... a great team accomplishment!

Congratulations to all teams and  a big thank you to Race Director Joe Pulizzano, and all those involved in the planning and production of the 2007 Great Midwest Relay. Let it be known that we're airing out  our vans and making plans for the 2008 Great Midwest Relay!

We've posted photos from our Group 1 runners and you can see them by clicking the View Photos tab above. If you have any photos that you'd like to include please send them to Bill: bill@runrace.net

Upon completion of their 1st rotation Van 1 members enjoy some downtime and a leisurely meal that doesn't include clif bars and gatorade at Jessica's Cafe in Delafield, WI.
