Park Ridge Charity Classic 5K
Friday September 28th, 2007
The first day of fall fell favorably in Park Ridge, Illinois and over
runners celebrated by racing in the 31st Annual Park Ridge Charity Classic 5K.
Under skillful control of race director David Loomos (16th year) and his crew of volunteers the race started at 8:00 a.m., heading slightly downhill and northwest on Summit Avenue. Chasing a Park Ridge Police pace car the pack merged onto Busse Highway, barely bending before one dramatic 180° turn-around where it doubled back into the glare of the morning sun, finishing near the gates of Hinckly Park.
Past champions Mike Egle and Gloria Iverson took top honors (again) in their respective sex divisions. Mike, of Glenview, IL led all racers with a finishing time of 15:40. Gloria, of Chicago finished as first female in 17:33. As in all previous 30 years of this classic race many runners came away with their own personal records, for which special certificates were issued at the finish line.
Many local businesses helped sponsor the 31st running of the Park Ridge Charity Classic. This year’s beneficiary was Jeanine Schultz Memorial School – over $4,000 was raised and donated thanks to registration fees and generous donations.
Timing and finish-line scoring was provided by DRKomputing, Inc. Check out online results at: http://www.drkomputing.com/results/2007/prcc07.htm
