Run Dirty 5K/10K: Kickin' Grass!
Sunday August 4th, 2013
It was simply a gorgeous morning in Northwest Indiana on Sunday, August 4th! And all the runners looked the same (gorgeous, I mean ;-), as I'm not implying that everyone had the exact same looks, body type, or ability. It IS a race, after all. Actually two races: a 5K that went around the cross-country course once, and a 10K that circled it twice. Cross-country generally means lots of grass, but this event had woods and trails and a little water to plunge through, too! And, yes, there were winners and age group placers for sure!
The weather was perfect, the conditions were outstanding, the competition was fair (everybody had to do the same "plunge" ;), and when all the racers got to the finish... their legs were "gorgeously" decorated with (you guessed it) DIRT! (OK, dried MUD!) Take a look at these finish line photos and see if you don't agree! [Note that these are reduced-resolution images, but the high-def originals are available upon request.]
Oh, and I'm going to add a totally biased final comment here about (I suppose) "age and beauty." I think the "best lookin'" (if not "dirtiest" ;-) finisher was my friend Bob "Hoop" Hooper, who for sure got the biggest round of applause. He's the oldest finisher, period! Hoop has proven to me time and again that: it isn't how you finish, it's having the courage to start--no matter how old or young you are, eh? (Again, have a look at the pics and see if you don't agree.)
