2009 "Going in Circles" 5K Run / Walk
Two days before our
annual "Going in Circles" 5K Run / Walk a cold front moved over Chicago, bringing with it persistent rain. On race morning the rain was still sputtering and slippery, wet leaves littered the pavement of Circle Avenue - our race course. About
intrepid Chicagoland runners and walkers toed the line to challenge the elements in a three lap tour of Circle Avenue.
This event is a
labor of love
directed by Corrine Schrieber, Sandi Abrajano, Mike Kinsch, and Ellen Wierzewski along with their team of first class volunteers which benefits the Norwood Park Train Station Foundation and Breast Cancer Foundation. The course is unique in its layout which loops three times around the oval of Circle Avenue in Norwood Park... it's quite spectator friendly and certified by
USA Track and Field
Emisael Favela and Jacqui Aubert emerged victorious in winning their respective sex divisions. Emisael, of Cicero was first overall in a new course record of 15:44.0. Jacqui, of Crystal Lake looked terrific in her racing singlet and arm warmers leading the fairer sex in a time of 19:20.4.
Mike Egle and Sue Graf led the charge in their respective masters sex divisions. Mike, of Glenview posted a time of 18:28.3. Sue, of Park Ridge cruised to victory in a time of 23:57.0.
