2010 "Going in Circles" - 5K

2010 "Going in Circles" 5K Run / Walk
In the days leading up to our
annual "Going in Circles" 5K Run / Walk race director Corrine Schrieber kept repeating to herself, "No rain, no rain, no rain." The forecast was calling for scattered storms, of which we've had our share in past editions of our race. Corrine hoped she could, through force of will, keep the rain away at least until all athletes had finished.
It seemed to work... the rain held off while some
intrepid Chicagoland runners and walkers toed the line and took-on the challenge in a three lap tour of Circle Avenue.
This event is a
labor of love
directed by Corrine, Sandi Abrajano, Mike Kinsch, and Ellen Wierzewski along with their team of first class volunteers which benefits the Norwood Park Train Station Foundation and Breast Cancer Foundation. The course is unique in its layout which loops three times around the oval of Circle Avenue in Norwood Park... it's quite spectator friendly and certified by
USA Track and Field
Emil Bojanov and Columba Montes emerged victorious in winning their respective sex divisions. Emil, of Chicago was first overall in a new course record of 15:17.91. Columba, of Chicago led the fairer sex establishing a new record of 18:07.35.
Ted Bowles and Michelle Thom led the charge in their respective masters sex divisions. Ted, of Bartlett, IL posted a new Masters male time of 16:55.45. Michelle, a Norwood Park native lowered the Masters female record to a time of 20:38.60.
