Come out Saturday, September 7, for a fun and exhilarating 5K (3.1mi) race around Portage Park! New this year is a 1-mile run/walk option! This event welcomes all manner of athlete: from the serious runner to the hobbyist or family looking for a great day in the park. While supplies last, participants will receive a goodie-bag with a complementary t-shirt!
The Victory Run will be held at Portage Park, located just blocks away from Our Lady of Victory Church. The main aim of the Victory Run is to promote community and wellness in the neighborhood. Proceeds from the race registration will support youth ministry activities at Our Lady of Victory.
Note: after a certain point, t-shirt sizes cannot be guaranteed.
The race start/finish line, along with registration, food, and medical personnel will be at Portage Park on the corner of LONG and BERTEAU. This is kiddy-corner to Portage Park Elementary School. Portage Park's parking lot can be accessed from Berteau Ave., and there is street parking available in the vicinity.
Registration and Goodie-Bag Pickup begins at 7:00AM and will continue until 7:50AM. Race begins promptly at 8:00AM. The 1mi walk will begin after the runners have left the gate at 8:10AM. Be sure to get there with enough time to go through check-in!
When you arrive at the Victory Run, there will be three stations you need to go to:
1) Check-In/Waiver Signing
2) T-shirt/Goodie-bag Pickup
3) Race chip pickup
Go to the stations in that order. You will receive instructions from our volunteers about how to go through the check-in process and get your race gear.
Each participant will be assigned one UNIQUE race chip. This will be attached to your person during the race. Since each chip will be specific to each runner, it is imperative that you do not mix up your chip with one from your family or friends. Each chip has your name and category assigned to it, in order to place you for our awards ceremony.
DO NOT LOSE THE CHIPS! If the chips are lost, it is a $35.00 fee for losing them. We will have instructions on how to attach the chips to your shoes and volunteers to collect them at the end of the race.
If you need to place your belongings somewhere, we will have a guarded gear-check section by registration.
WATER STATIONS and BATHROOMS:
Bathrooms are available at the field house off of Berteau. A water station will be on the course with glasses of water for all participants as needed. There will also be water distributed after the race by the finish line.
A course map will be available for viewing at the event.
