The Hoof it for Haiti 5K Fun Run and Kids Run event was launched by group of deeply committed teens from Sacred Heart Parish in Winnetka, Illinois to raise funds to supply food, shelter, clothing, medicine, education and other necessities for thousands of displaced earthquake victims who relocated to Sassier Haiti and were welcomed with open arms by the parishioners of St. Jean Baptiste Parish there. Sacred Heart Parish and St. Jean Baptiste Parish became "sister parishes" in 1999. Since that time, the humanitarianism and generosity of the Sacred Heart parishioners and students have supported the construction of a school, medical clinic and community center, as well as significant micro-economic development and terrace farming programs.
