ALL THREE 2016 ICE AGE RACES ARE SOLD OUT! THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR THEIR SUPPORT AND PATIENCE.
2016 will mark the 35th running of the Ice Age Trail 50 mile race, making it one of the oldest, continuously running ultramarathons in the United States.
Held on the second Saturday each May in Wisconsin's Southern Kettle Moraine Forest, the Ice Age Trail 50 is located about one hour southwest of Milwaukee, one hour southeast of Madison and 1.5-2 hours northwest of Chicago.
The 50-mile and 50K courses follow the Ice Age National Scenic Trail, taking runners on a tour of the unique geologic features left by the last Ice Age 10,000 years ago. The diverse and beautiful landscape is marked by evergreen and deciduous forests, natural prairies, lakes, ponds, marshes, eskers and kettles. Rated 3/3 by Ultrarunning magazine, the terrain varies from rolling cross country ski trails to twisting, root and rock-covered single track. The Half Marathon course traverses wooded cross country ski trails within the Southern Kettle Moraine forest.
All three races sell out within hours, so runners are encouraged to sign-up when registration opens on Sunday, December 13th, 2015. Registration for the 50-mile race opens at Noon CST; the 50K at 2:00 and the Half Marathon at 4:00 p.m.
To celebrate the 35th anniversary of our 50-mile race, we're offering a $5,000 cash prize to any male or female runner who sets a new 50-mile course record. Both the male and female course records were set in 2014 by Max King of Bend, Oregon (5:41:07) and Nebraska's Kaci Lickteig (6:41:39).
$200 cash awards will also be given to 50-mile runners who set new age division records. A complete list of our 50-mile course records, as well as CRs for the 50K and Half Marathon events, can be found on the Hall of Fame page on the Ice Age Trail 50 website.
With plentiful aid stations, ample course markings and excellent volunteer support, the Ice Age 50 offers a great experience for first time and veteran ultrarunners.
