th Annual "Going in Circles" 5-Km Race and 1-Mile Run/Walk
The final Saturday of October began a crisp, 40°F morning with sunrise at 7:18 am...
RDs Corrine Schreiber and Sandi Abrajano
had already been out for staging, hours before dawn, bundled in their winter-wear, focused on details of race day, which was about to begin in Norwood Park, Chicago.
Our annual "Going in Circles" 5-Km and 1-Mile Run/Walk is a neighborhood charity celebration of running, originally conceived by Corrine and Sandi, with proceeds directed to two worthy causes... the historic Norwood Park Train Depot and Lynn Sage Cancer Research Foundation. The 5-Km main event is a unique
-lap spin around Circle Avenue, a street designed as a 1-mile oval, which showcases landmark homes and nearby small shops and the train station of Norwood Park.
It's terrific to see the many familiar faces of energetic runners, who make our race an annual event of their calendar. The northwest side of Chicago is enjoying a growth-spurt of racing options, most of which have received favorable reviews! We're honored to have the support and attendance of
Alderman Mary O'Connor
among our dignitaries.
Congratulations to overall winner Arturs Bareikis of Crestwood, Illinois -
- past-champion Columba Montes of Chicago for finishing first in their respective gender divisions of the 5 Kilometer road race.
participants finished the 5-Km run, and
completed the 1-Mile Run/Walk
