That Great Matteson's The Great 8k!
Saturday June 29th, 2013
Back in time where I come from, the Sunday paper's magazine insert--like "Parade" :)--was known as a rotogravure. No kidding! And it usually had nothing whatsoever to do with plumbing! ;-) And how do I know this? [Because, after all, you never saw that word entitling either the Tribune or Sun-Times' mags.] Well, it's because of my grandmother's fave old tune "Easter Parade," which contained lyrics like: "On the avenue, Fifth Avenue, the photographers will snap us / And you'll find that you're in the rotogravure." :-|
And so what does *that* have to do with anything at all in today's day and age? Well, even though today isn't Sunday (it's Monday) and despite the fact that we're not even remotely close to Easter, this past Saturday's The Great 8k through the streets and avenues of Matteson [Matteson Avenue, ya "get it"? ;-] could well be considered a great parade! And instead of "bonnets," many runners were wearing baseball caps; and instead of your pictures appearing in the rotogravure, we got 'em *here* instead: on-line, in-order, and lookin' good!!!
As that old song continues, "Oh, I could write a sonnet about your Easter bonnet / And of the girl I'm taking to the Easter Parade!"
Don't look for any sonnets, but photos of most of y'all appear on the following webpage. You can click on each to enlarge, and you can use the "Contact Us" tab (at left) to ask for high-res digital copies, which we'd be happy to email anyone who wants one.
This isn't exactly RunRace copying the idea of the old rotogravure, but it is possibly the 21st century's version of what used to be known as "the graphics section" tucked inside your Sunday morning newspaper, eh? Maybe?? Anyway, I'll call it your new "pixelsgrandeur." ;-)
By the way, the whole race went super well. Everything came off without a hitch: the rain held back, the temps were cool and ideal for running, the volunteers and course attenders were GREAT [it is, after all, The Great 8k :)] and even Ronald McDonald showed up!!! There was just one "glitch," and you'll see it in the results... but maybe the "Unknown Runner" might recognize himself in the pictures? Yes, in RunRace's very own pixelsgrandeur. ;-)
Just click on "View Photos" and have a LQQK....
Great fun! And a Great 8k day was had by all! Looking forward to seeing everyone again next summer! Happy perambulating*, everyone!!! ;-)
[* that's another old word, probably from great-grandma's time! :]
