More "Trails from The Dark Side"
Sunday September 22nd, 2013
"Trails from The Dark Side" (forgive the pun, please? but do look at the map :) really and truly ought to be written this way: "Trails on The Bright Side." For, yes indeed, the weather for this past fourth Sunday of September in NW Indiana was PERFECT. Bright, sunshiny (mostly), not windy, and the lawn was even mowed. That's right, as you can see by the pictures, the Start/Finish area was like in those mythical Elysian Fields that probably surrounded Mt. Olympus where the gods and goddesses all played. Nah, these were soccer fields... but we got in-and-out of there before THE THRONGS started arriving. All in all, a perfect place to hold a race!
What you don't see in the pics, of course, are "the woods" that everybody ran through--practically immediately after leaving these sweet fields. Having run (OK, sometimes walked :) through those myself in The Ancient Days (I used to shake hands with Zeus and schmooze Venus ;-) I *know* those woods! And they're fabulous. A trailrunner's dream and a day hiker's vacation. It's all good.
Paul Stofko picks a GREAT venue for a trail half-mary, despite it being way... off the beaten path so that it's kinda hard to find--but well worth the effort!! Next year we'll all know better and won't be fooled by what Google et al all claims IS Imagination Glen Park--which is NOT where this was. This is Imagination Glen EAST, or "the dark side." That other place where I did my imaginary schmoozing is "the west side," and that of course (West Side Story) is a tale of a trail for another day. :-)
Meanwhile, I've added a bunch more photos--also "reduced to fit" but, hey, if any of 'em strike your fancy that you're in and want a bigger better copy of, just ask. And if you can figure out who to ask and what to ask for, then you too are a trailrunner par excellence, and truly do deserve to come back next year and bring all your friends!
It's a fun time! Just LOOK... at all these way-happy near-Olympic gods and goddesses!!!
