Dash Into the New Year and Into a Gorgeous Day
Saturday December 28th, 2013
Almost FIFTY DEGREES at the end of December in Northern Illinois? We must all be dreaming, huh?
Well, no, actually it did happen this year on the last Saturday before the official start of 2014. As you can tell by all the photos, race conditions for this annual event were just about perfect. (One runner said it was a bit windy, but that's about it.) So, for December 28th? Yes, it was perfect!
The sky was a gorgeous crystal blue, the runners were dressed-down to achieve max-level comfort (but Santa Claus insisted on his full outfit ;-) and when "Go!" was shouted by Race Director Anthony Burton, the wonderful warm frolic began amidst whoops and hollers!
What a beautiful morning for a 3-point-1-mile run! And although temps weren't quite 50 at the start, once you did begin running… it might've felt like 60! It sure felt comfy for us cheerleaders at the finish line. We didn't even need hats or gloves! What's wrong with this picture?
Absolutely nothing!!! A marvelous time (we honestly believe) was had by all!
The awards went two deep, as they say, (1st and 2nd place for each age group) and Matteson Community Center Director Anthony presented them all. Oh, and the awards ceremony was held *inside* the gym of the equally beautiful fitness facility. You should know for the future that--just in case there ever is bad weather--you don't have to register, pick up your packet, or wait for awards outdoors. Matteson has a beautiful facility here--with indoor "facilities" to match! :)
We also believe the race's dedicated charity "Stand Up To Cancer" received good proceeds, since runners' entry fees supported that good cause.
We hope we were able to capture just about every single runner crossing the finish line. Look through the accompanying pictures (click on "View Photos"). You can enlarge each one and we'll also be happy to email the original megapixel high-resolution image to you, if you'll simply contact RunRace and ask. (Most are identifiable by bib number, which is one reason why we ask you to wear them where we can see them!)
And hey, if the coming year brings weather like nature gave us for Dash day, then 2014 ought to be a real treat, don't you think?
Happy New Year, Everyone! And may all of your "dashes" be fabulous!!!
